On October 12th, 1984 after a long and draining day's shooting on the set of Cover Up, Hexum became bored with the extensive delays and jokingly put a prop .44 magnum revolver to his temple and pulled the trigger. Hexum apparently did not realize that blanks use paper or plastic wadding to seal gun powder into the shell, and that this wadding is propelled out of the barrel of the gun with enough force to cause severe injury or death if the weapon is fired at point-blank range, especially if pointed at a particularly vulnerable spot, such as the temple or the eye. 8x10 black and white photo circa 1983 signed and inscribed in black ink, 'To Fran. Lindberg was back in combat when six men raised the second, larger flag, about four hours later. Lindberg was shot through the arm and evacuated. He was later awarded the Silver Star for bravery and a Purple Heart. Joe Rosenthal's photo of the second flag-raising became one of the most enduring images of the war. When Lindberg returned to the states no one believed him when he said he raised the first flag at Iwo Jima. 'I was called a liar,' he said. In 1954, Lindberg was invited to Washington for the dedication of the Marine memorial. It carried the names of the second group of flag-raisers, but not the first. He spent his final years trying to raise awareness of the first flag-raising. 8x10 black and white photo of the flag raising in Iwo Jima signed in black ink 'Charles W. In his day, he was the highest-paid writer in America although he still lived beyond his means and had to continue writing to meet expenses. 58.  Jayne Mansfield. (1932-1967). Amply proportioned American leading lady whose superstructure became the butt of many jokes. She began her career as a beauty queen, Miss Photoflash of 1952. Bette Davis said of her, 'Dramatic art in her opinion is knowing how to fill a sweater.' She had limited success in films. Her stardom was short-lived and she was performing in a nigh-club act at the time of her death. She was decapitated in a car crash. 10x8 black and white pinup photo of Mansfield wearing a leopard print bikini leaning on a couch signed atypically in black artist's marker. Provenance. Originally from the collection of an actor who appeared in the 1960s television program Peyton Place. While villainy was his bread and butter, Mazurki enjoyed working with comedians like Lou Costello; he was particularly fond of Costello because the diminutive comedian treated him with dignity and respect, defending big Mike against people who treated the hulking actor like a big dumb lug. 8x10 black and white photo signed and inscribed in black felt pen, 'To 'Ron' Fisher. In 1933 Milch became State Secretary of the newly-formed Reich's Aviation Ministry answering directly to Hermann Goringring. In this capacity, he was instrumental in establishing the Luftwaffe. In 1935, Milch's ethnicity came into question when rumors began to circulate that his father was a Jew [which was true]. This prompted an investigation by the Gestapo that Göring quelled by producing an affidavit signed by Milch's mother stating that the true father of Erhard was his mother's uncle. Göring then famously said, "I decide who is a Jew!" Following the defeat of France, Milch was promoted to field-marshal (Generalfeldmarschall) and given the title Air Inspector General. After Hitler's suicide, Milch attempted to flee Germany, but was captured by Allied forces. On surrendering he presented his baton to the Commando-Brigadier Derek Mills-Roberts, who was so disgusted by what he had seen when liberating the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, that he broke the baton over Milch's head. In 1947, Milch was tried as a war criminal at Nuremberg. He was convicted of two counts and was sentenced to life imprisonment. His sentence was commuted to 15 years imprisonment in 1951, but he was released in June 1954. The latest edition of Sanders Price Guide to Autographs values a signed photo at $250. After a few film and television appearances his breakthrough was Rebel Without A Cause (1955) in which he gave an impressive performance as John "Plato" Crawford, the sensitive teenager smitten with James Dean's Jim Stark. His biographer Paul Jeffers recounted that Mineo received thousands of fan letters from young female admirers, was mobbed by them at public appearances and further wrote, "He dated the most beautiful women in Hollywood and New York." He was unable to sustain his career once he was too old to play angst-ridden teenagers. He was stabbed to death outside his Hollywood home at age 37. He was murdered under circumstances that suggested "a homosexual motive." Mineo identified himself as "bisexual" in a 1972 interview, published after his death, but his biography notes that he dated men exclusively in the last years of his short life.
