Lot 106. John Toland (1912-2004). American author and historian. He is best known for his biography of Adolf Hitler. He won a Pulitzer Prize in 1971 for his book The Rising Sun, which chronicled Imperial Japan from its Manchurian involvement following World War I to the end of World War II.

Signed in blue ink on half title page. This is Toland’s most controversial book, because he wrote about evidence that President Franklin Roosevelt knew in advance of plans to attack the naval base but remained silent. Some of the sources he cited have come forward to dispute his account of their information.
